Close the Gates

The United States is composed to roughly 12 million undocumented immigrants. That is approximately 3.7% of the U.S. population. To give a better illustration of this, if every undocumented immigrant lived in Arizona, they can fill the entire state up twice.Illegal immigration is causing havoc instead of creating prosperity in the U.S.  U.S. citizens lives are at risk due to undocumented immigrants. U.S. citizens, government officials, or other nations citizens who attempt to come to America need to be aware of this crisis. Illegal immigrants create more problems than solutions. However, some may infer illegal immigrants bring fortune to the U.S. Illegal immigrants threaten each citizen's rights that are declared in the Declaration of Independence; Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. If this issue isn’t faced directly, than how can the President guarantee prosperity for future citizens if his current citizens aren’t accommodated for.

The solution to illegal immigration population in the U.S, is not allowing any more immigrants to come into the U.S. The U.S. needs to focus its attention first within the borders before expanding outwards. The U.S. has been involved in many historically events, some ending with trumpish and others with grief. Through the countless years, the U,S, has accumulated a debt that seems to grow instead of shrink. Ed Butowsky states, “ We currently have a national debt of $18 trillion, on which we have to pay interest”( Butowsky 1).The United States owes an enormous amount of money, yet the President wants to continue to let illegal immigrants to come into the nation and cause more debt. In the U.S, there are countless people struggling to make ends meet. Yet, the President wants to keep bringing more people in. The illegal immigrants will just be put in high rate crime neighborhoods where drugs and violence will corrupt them and soon the illegal immigrants will be the criminals. In the New York Times, the article “ Immigration Enriches You and me”, Nicholas Kristof states, “ If these migrants are given work permits and brought into the system, they will contribute $45 billion over five years in payroll taxes to the United States economy, according to the Center for American Progress” ( Kristof 2). Kristof statement does sound appealing, however, there is still the cost of living and other expenses the nation must pay to have the illegal immigrants which still doesn't add up to the nation’s economy benefiting.

Each illegal immigrant that comes to the U.S. came for the same reason why U.S. is such a great nation; Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Illegal Immigration Population creates diversity the U.S. while culturally enriching this nation. With thousands of immigrants coming from all across the world, each ethnicity that resides within brings something new to strengthen this great nation that originated by illegal immigrants from Europe. Additionally, illegal immigrants have proved to be hard workers while doing the jobs that most American citizens would not want to do. These immigrants brings revenue to the nation while being the foundation to the nation since many of the jobs these immigrants process range from construction to farming.

The focus needs to be drawn more on the current citizens of the United States of America. Illegal immigrants bring more cons than pros such as diseases, terrorism, and revolt. It may be inhumane to restrict homeless, terrified immigrants the rightful passage to a new life from the pain and suffering they are inducing within their homeland but this country runs through the people by the people. Thus, if the citizens within aren’t happy with their own nations decisions, than the citizens have the right to make officials change those decisions. The United States has helped out many countries for years and look what it has brought; debt. The United States of America needs to close its borders and restrict, at least a couple years, illegal immigrants the passage to America. This will give America time to focus attention on the current citizens and resolve problems within.

The United States of America has struggled for years to control illegal immigrants from trespassing onto this nation's land yet all the nation has done is build bigger walls or hire more security to man those walls. Americans are in fear to live within their own nations borders due to uncertainty of an immigrant's actions. America is still recuperating from the tragic event of 9/11. A terrorist attack that a foreigner planned to dismantle America’s pride. Americans needs to take charge in this action and speak up to government officials that American citizens will not be stepped upon. Allowing immigrants in America without knowing any kind of background of their previous lifestyle prior to entering America is jeopardizing American citizens lives. There needs to a full background check on each individual that tries to come into America and cleared if that individual's intentions of coming in America are for greater good of the United States of America.

  1. Paragraph one- line four needs to be space out a bit more. Try not to say U.S. too much. Try using the whole word United States or North America. You also put comas in the "U,S," instead of U.S. There are some words that can be lower case instead of upper case such as "population". It's also a little difficult to tell what side you are on. It's great in paragraph two you tell the reader about both Kristof's and Butowsky's point of view on money.

    1. This argument sheds light on both of the sides of the immigration debate. That shows that the pros and cons of the paper's meaning is understood and it eliminates bias. It is difficult to believe that immigrants will become criminals though. There is so much criminal activity going on in this country, it is impossible to narrow that activity down to one group. Yet, the main purpose of this argument is very important, America should address the problems current citizens have. Even though illegal immigration is already a problem for some citizens, this piece's point is very clear and effective when stating the solution explicitly.

  3. Using "The U.S" too much doesn't sound ethical or logical in a argumentive essay,. Try to use or incorporate synonyms for that word if your having issues. Try using the word "citizens" or "Americans". The essay itself puts a spotlight on both opposing sides of the issue which is a great way to show both the pros and cons on the issue. However, its a little difficult to determine what side you are on. Evern though illegal immigration can be beneficial for our country as you said. Immigrants can also give us great amount of disadvantages. Overal, try to be more clearer on which standing position your are in.

  4. You have no way of stating that every illegal immigrant in this country will become/is a criminal. Which does not make your argument believable. If you would have added facts to back that statement up it would have been ok but right now you are just assuming things. Also, the word you over used in this argument was "The U.S." Lastly, Ed Butowsky does not seem like a credible source to due to the fact that in his argument he did NOT show us the opposing viewpoint in his argument. Even though he is a financial advisor he did not provide us with the opposing viewpoint making his argument have bias in it.

  5. You are right, we as a nation should worry more about our own U.S citizens than immigrants who do not contribute the same. Also, you make another great point, the U.S should execute a full background check on immigrants who want to be residents or citizens. It would have been nice if you would have brought up some evidence on some statements you made, like in the first paragraph were you mention immigrants in Arizona. You also did a nice job including the positives if immigration were to be amnestied, like when you claim it will strength the country with its diverse community.

  6. Good way to look at the situation/ issue from both sides. The U.S. Should be more concern with their citizens before granting amnesty is a very strong claim. When granting amnesty, the U.S. Is taking a chance by letting illegal immigrants come as they please. Good that your refered back to 9/11, it's something that happened due to the lack of security in our country, and allowing any and everyone to come will overwhelm the security in which the country has today. On the other hand it would make your argument stronger if you put the source as to where the information that you stated came from. Doing so will allow you argument to be more credible to the situation. Overall you have great key points in the argument

  7. Your argument rightfully alleges that America must take care of its own citizens before others. This is backed up by your solution to stop all immigrants from entering the U.S for some period of time so that we can enforce our agencies that deal with immigration. You rightfully show that we need more border patrol's and smarter walls. On the other hand, you could have given a source to show the violence these undocumented immigrants commit or will commit. The men who attacked America in 9/11 had some type of documentation meaning that they do not represent the undocumented community.

  8. There's no way that you can say every illegal immigrant commits crimes. Where's your statistics to prove your point? Yes, America has a lot of problems and should be focused on it more. The only downside to that is that the problems are not going to go any where. Why not come up with a way to allow illegal immigrants to come and help out. The more people there is, there's a better chance to come up with better plans. There is always a solution to a problem. Maybe having illegal immigrants is what America needs.

  9. It is understandable that because of actions that have occurred people would still have a fear. The United States for example, still has citizens that fear middle eastern people because they are "terrorists". Thus giving immigrants a biased label. Not all illegal immigrants are criminals. Although, there is 12 million undocumented immigrants, that does not compare to the other 308 million citizens or residents of this nation. You are basing your position under a biased thought that immigrants are evil, that they will only cause trouble when most are in the search for their own liberty. Each is trying to succeed in life. And most important each illegal immigrant is on a pursuit of happiness. Its not about what only a few have done, its about the amazing feats plenty can do together.

  10. Your argument was persuasive and had a very great explanation with supporting evidence that helped see both sides that you provide for your audience. One thing that kind of weakened your argument was the constant use of U.S. Another thing was stating that all undocumented immigrants are or will become criminals, not providing evidence to support that thought will not help out on your decision.

  12. 3.7% are undocumented while 96.3% are. Beginning your argument with this statistic immediately defeats your position. its such a small percentage that anyone can look past. Along with that, you had stated "The illegal immigrants will just be put in high rate crime neighborhoods where drugs and violence will corrupt them and soon the illegal immigrants will be the criminals." but you don't provide clear evidence as to how this is true. All immigrants aren't criminals and this generalization shouldn't be made since the majority of crimes committed in the US are made by "legal" documented U.S. citizens, so does this mean we should deport legal citizens for being criminals?
