Simple as One, Two, Click

Gas light in car starting blinking.“Siri, find the closest gas station near me” says I. Siri replies, “ Okay, the closest gas station is 2.5 miles east from your location” Without a sweat, I’m on my way to get gas. Now of days, asking your phone where the closest gas station is can be done with just a push of a button. Before the 20th century, more like in early 1800’s, maps were used to locate a certain destination or merely asking someone for directions could do the trick. Not anymore, phones allow people to gps to their desired location. Technology has made existence in modern times comfortable. Information is now easily accessible through the Web and tasks that once took days to complete are done in hours.
In 2015, more than one-third of Americans are obese. You can say that this is due to poor eating diets, but according to Tim Wu it’s because of technology. In As Technology Gets Better, Will Society Get Worse?, Wu brings up a group called Oji-Cree. These group of people underwent a rapid transition of advanced technology. Wu states, “Since the arrival of new technologies, the population has suffered a massive increase in morbid obesity, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes” ( Wu 2). At first glance, it makes sense to blame technology. However, analyzing it, the people part of Oji-Cree were consumed in their own pleasures. The Oji-Cree lifestyle was replaced and hard manual labor was no longer necessary. They fell in the comfort and pleasures advanced tech brought and weren’t realizing the effects. Wu also states, “ The problem with technological evolution is that it is under our control and, unfortunately, we don’t always make the best decisions”( Wu 3). Thus, technology isn’t the problem. Desire and comfort through technology caused the group Oji-Cree to see hardship. They couldn't open their eyes and notice how they were consumed by their ease and satisfaction it brought.
Those against technology only see the cons it brings. In the article, Is Google Making Us Stupid? by Nicholas Carr, Carr states, “ They supply the stuff of thought, but they also shape the process of thought. And what the Net seems to be doing is chipping away my capacity for concentration and contemplation”( Carr 2). He explains how the web as affected our brains abstract thinking and cognitive mind set. Carr is one of many believers of how advanced tech has created more problems than solutions. Believers of anti-tech think it causes people to become sluggish, non-abstract thinkers, desideratum to tech, and causes society to become reliable to it. That fact is, technology brings happiness and revolutionizes everything around us. Due to each advancements in tech, medicines and medical tools were crafted to save lives. Furthermore, Society revolves around technology and it isn't that fact that technology is moving fast but the consumers within a society who cause technology to rapidly evolve. Wu states, “ our technological identities are determined by what companies decide to sell based on what they believe we, as consumers, will pay for”(Wu 3.) Therefore, as Wu stated, consumers are those in command and society’s views just adapt to each change.
Advancements in technology is beneficial to all of humanity. The Web offers accessibility in minutes. For example, a student can easily look up an information to help them complete a research assignment or aid in a math problem they are stuck on. Also someone can google steps to fixing a flat tire without having any knowledge of a car or calling for assistance . Additionally, people can stay connected with one another or spread awareness faster through the use of technology. Businesses can flourish and now paperless statements can be viewed online which limits the use of paper which stops trees from being cut down. Technology is today’s world and tomorrow is just a barrier that holds back it’s limitations.

Close the Gates

The United States is composed to roughly 12 million undocumented immigrants. That is approximately 3.7% of the U.S. population. To give a better illustration of this, if every undocumented immigrant lived in Arizona, they can fill the entire state up twice.Illegal immigration is causing havoc instead of creating prosperity in the U.S.  U.S. citizens lives are at risk due to undocumented immigrants. U.S. citizens, government officials, or other nations citizens who attempt to come to America need to be aware of this crisis. Illegal immigrants create more problems than solutions. However, some may infer illegal immigrants bring fortune to the U.S. Illegal immigrants threaten each citizen's rights that are declared in the Declaration of Independence; Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. If this issue isn’t faced directly, than how can the President guarantee prosperity for future citizens if his current citizens aren’t accommodated for.

The solution to illegal immigration population in the U.S, is not allowing any more immigrants to come into the U.S. The U.S. needs to focus its attention first within the borders before expanding outwards. The U.S. has been involved in many historically events, some ending with trumpish and others with grief. Through the countless years, the U,S, has accumulated a debt that seems to grow instead of shrink. Ed Butowsky states, “ We currently have a national debt of $18 trillion, on which we have to pay interest”( Butowsky 1).The United States owes an enormous amount of money, yet the President wants to continue to let illegal immigrants to come into the nation and cause more debt. In the U.S, there are countless people struggling to make ends meet. Yet, the President wants to keep bringing more people in. The illegal immigrants will just be put in high rate crime neighborhoods where drugs and violence will corrupt them and soon the illegal immigrants will be the criminals. In the New York Times, the article “ Immigration Enriches You and me”, Nicholas Kristof states, “ If these migrants are given work permits and brought into the system, they will contribute $45 billion over five years in payroll taxes to the United States economy, according to the Center for American Progress” ( Kristof 2). Kristof statement does sound appealing, however, there is still the cost of living and other expenses the nation must pay to have the illegal immigrants which still doesn't add up to the nation’s economy benefiting.

Each illegal immigrant that comes to the U.S. came for the same reason why U.S. is such a great nation; Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Illegal Immigration Population creates diversity the U.S. while culturally enriching this nation. With thousands of immigrants coming from all across the world, each ethnicity that resides within brings something new to strengthen this great nation that originated by illegal immigrants from Europe. Additionally, illegal immigrants have proved to be hard workers while doing the jobs that most American citizens would not want to do. These immigrants brings revenue to the nation while being the foundation to the nation since many of the jobs these immigrants process range from construction to farming.

The focus needs to be drawn more on the current citizens of the United States of America. Illegal immigrants bring more cons than pros such as diseases, terrorism, and revolt. It may be inhumane to restrict homeless, terrified immigrants the rightful passage to a new life from the pain and suffering they are inducing within their homeland but this country runs through the people by the people. Thus, if the citizens within aren’t happy with their own nations decisions, than the citizens have the right to make officials change those decisions. The United States has helped out many countries for years and look what it has brought; debt. The United States of America needs to close its borders and restrict, at least a couple years, illegal immigrants the passage to America. This will give America time to focus attention on the current citizens and resolve problems within.

The United States of America has struggled for years to control illegal immigrants from trespassing onto this nation's land yet all the nation has done is build bigger walls or hire more security to man those walls. Americans are in fear to live within their own nations borders due to uncertainty of an immigrant's actions. America is still recuperating from the tragic event of 9/11. A terrorist attack that a foreigner planned to dismantle America’s pride. Americans needs to take charge in this action and speak up to government officials that American citizens will not be stepped upon. Allowing immigrants in America without knowing any kind of background of their previous lifestyle prior to entering America is jeopardizing American citizens lives. There needs to a full background check on each individual that tries to come into America and cleared if that individual's intentions of coming in America are for greater good of the United States of America.
